Birds-a-building

Duple-minor Longways

Noted by Joseph Needham and Arthur Peck, 1932

A1 and A2 First and second couples move round the four sides of a square, passing partner right shoulder and giving right hands, shoulder high, then pass contrary on the side in the same way and so on to places - 4 bars for each change (bar 1 to meet, bars 2 and 3 pass giving hands, bar 4 quarter turn on corner). C/P
B1 First couple lead down and back to places and "Set". W/S
B2 First and second couples dance round once and a half to progress. P/R

The first part of this dance represents the birds building a nest and at the call of "Set" some of the dancers would bob down to imitate the birds sitting on the nest. The longways set should be wider than usual.
